Talia fell under a spell...Jack broke the curse.
I was told to beware the accursed spindle, but it was so enchanting, so hypnotic...
I was looking for a little adventure the day I ditched my tour group. But finding a comatose town, with a hot-looking chick asleep in it, was so not what I had in mind.
I awakened in the same place but in another time—to a stranger's soft kiss.
I couldn't help kissing her. Sometimes you just have to kiss someone. I didn't know this would happen.
Now I am in dire trouble because my father, the king, says I have brought ruin upon our country. I have no choice but to run away with this commoner!
Now I'm stuck with a bratty princess and a trunk full of her jewels...The good news: My parents will freak!

A retelling of Sleeping Beauty: if you think you've heard this tale, think again. Princess Talia was warned against touching a spindle, though she never actually was shown what a spindle looked like. Talia is about to turn sixteen when the "evil" witch catches her in a trap. Three-hundred years later Jack happens upon the sleeping castle. He is so taken aback by Talia's beauty that he kisses her and well, you know the rest, happily ever after.

Loved this! Alex Flinn blows me away every time with a new and clever fairy-tale retelling. Flinn's writing was upbeat and fun and even transferring point-of-views (to Talia and then Jack), it brought both characters to life.

Princess Talia was a spoiled brat, I barely could stand her attitude in the beginning. I understand that she is a princess and so the snottiness-feature should be implied. However after getting my initial reaction of her after she met Jack; she changed quite a bit. By the end, Talia was really sweet and I barely could remember that I hated her in the beginning. Jack was modern. maybe I'm just a lame teenage but I didn't know Old Navy puts the year on their shirts. (I'll have to check that out when I go shopping next time.)

I am a huge fan of Sleeping Beauty and this was a great book to add to my collection. This tale was fresh and witty, a book that I totally enjoyed.

First Sentence:
"If I hear one more syllable about spindles, I shall surely die!"
