Kickin' It: August 2015

Tuesday, September 01, 2015

Kickin’ It is a new feature at The Bucket List where I round-up the whole month in one post, bringing you reviews you may have missed, other awesome bookish things, and even what I’m currently obsessed with in other media besides books. I probably say this about every month but August was super busy.  If I wasn't interning, I was working.  If I wasn't doing that, I was trying to read.  I finally bought myself a coloring book which is cool and hope to share some pictures with you very soon.  I went on vacation this month too-- Salem, MA was an awesome trip!  August is always a sad month for me too because it's the end of summer.  Before I graduated school, the end of summer was the start of school and (ugh...) homework.  This time though, the end of summer is the start of something new and something awesome, I hope.

Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman (5 stars): Legacy of Kings is a page-turner like no other.  It will have you glued to the page in a matter of seconds, on the edge of your seat, itching for more.

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick (3 stars): Huntley Fitzapatrick will introduce you to a fantastic cast of characters that will have you wondering if the grass is really greener next door.

Reawakened by Colleen Houck (5 stars): Colleen Houck has created something truly original and breathtaking.  Reawakened will have you on your toes, impatient to find what happens next.

After the Red Rain by Barry Lyga, Peter Facinelli, and Robert DeFranco (3 stars): This page-turner frightens readers and forces them to imagine a life where this is the reality they must face.  Barry Lyga, Peter Facinelli, and Robert DeFranco’s After the Red Rain will keep you on the edge of your seat, hoping everything turns out okay in the end.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (5 stars): LOVED it. You need this book in your hands and should have been reading it five minutes ago.

Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid (3 stars): Never Always Sometimes will have you always laughing and crying, sometimes at the same time but will never have you put the book down.

Her Cold Revenge by Erin Johnson (4 stars): Her Cold Revenge is a great sequel to an entertaining series.  Joe and Grace will surely win the hearts of many.  In the second book of the Wanted series, things start heating up (and it’s not the weather) and nonstop-adventure leaves readers breathless.

Reawakened by Colleen Houck (my review): I've never read anything by Colleen Houck and now all I can ask myself is why haven't I?  I loved this book so much!

Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine: I didn't know Caine wrote anything recently.  This one released in June and I totally missed it.  It sounds awesome and I can't wait to get my hands on it to delve in.  It's set in an alternate universe where the Library of Alexandria does not burn.  It sounds intriguing already.

Love with a Chance of Drowning by Torre DeRoche: Just coming home from South Korea (well a few months ago now), I am still looking for adventure.  I want to travel the world.  I want to see everything.  I hope by reading this memoir-- someone who fell in love with a traveler-- it will quench some of my wanderlust.

Sex with Kings by Eleanor Herman: Nonfiction, I know.  If you recognize the author's name-- well, you definitely should because she just wrote the recent release, Legacy of Kings.  I loved that book so much that I definitely want to try her other works and that includes Sex with Kings.  It's about the scandlous history no one talks about, about the mistresses and wives of kings.  The whole book sounds very interesting.

The Shadow Behind the Stars by Rebecca Hahn (9/1/2015): Narrated by the Fates. There is not enough books about the Fates.  I am so excited to read this one!

The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow (9/22/2015): I don't know how to describe this one except I have heard so much awesome things about it already.  It's a dystopian that sounds super original!

Infinite in Between by Carolyn Mackler (9/1/2015): After coming home from vacation, I came home to a huge box by HarperCollins and a copy of this was inside.  I'll read this one soon.  I've never read anything by Carolyn Mackler but it sounds like it will be a great contemporary.

Just Right by Got7: I was scrolling through my YouTube feed this month and came across this new song.  It's super catchy and kind of reminds my of Bruno Mars' Just the Way You Are.

Downtown by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis: This great singer-duo is back with another catchy song that everyone will fall in love with.

No Escape (directed by John Erick Dowdle): I just saw this last weekend and really enjoyed it.  If you are looking for an action film with some heart, you definitely get one with this!

How was your August?
